Ethics and the Theater will present Nilo Cruz’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Anna in the Tropics.
The play takes place in 1929, and the world is changing around the group of Cuban exiles who have set up a small cigar industry in Florida. Machines are replacing hand rolling, and lectors. But in the factory where the play is set a new lector arrives and roils the placid community, because he is a handsome, passionate reader and because he has chosen to read Anna Karenina. Inspired by this book, the characters reexamine their lives, their work, and their relationships.
Richard Van Deusen directs cast, which includes Adriana Degirolami, Vince Navarro, Antonio Pagliarulo, Evgeniya Radilova, Thom Rivera, Alejandro Santoni, and Carol Van Deusen, with stage directions read by Muriel Berger.
Come at 6:30 pm for a wine and cheese reception and, after the reading, participate in a discussion ofthe ethical issues of the play led by Dr. Anne Klaeysen.
